"Wizard of Oz" celebrates 75th anniversary

EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS MATERIAL WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY 4:3<br/> <br />Seventy five years after Dorothy crash-landed in Munchkinland, the 1939 classic film "The Wizard of Oz" had an updated premiere in Hollywood on Sunday (Sept. 15).<br/> <br />A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the renovated TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX, featuring an IMAX 3D version screening of the film, which made its original debut at the movie house.<br/> <br />The film has grown in the estimation of movie-lovers and critics since it first debuted in theaters. Reviews were strong, but initially the movie failed to recoup its production budget, grossing slightly more than 3 million dollars (USD), but costing 2 million to produce.<br/> <br />Fans of "The Wizard of Oz" will be able to see those ruby red slippers and the iconic yellow brick road for a one-week engagement in U.S. theaters on Sept. 20.
