Originally published on August 22, 2013<br /><br />More than one thousand people were evacuated a pipeline owned by Pemex leaked ammonia gas in Oaxaca, Mexico on August 20. It was reported that at least three people were killed and some 40 others were poisoned. <br /><br />According to Reuters, Pemex said the pipeline was damaged by heavy machinery operated by a private company doing road work in the area. <br /><br />Pemex is said to have a poor safety record in recent years. Nearly 40 people were killed in January in a massive explosion at the company's Mexico City headquarters.
