Originally published on August 21, 2013 <br /><br />A bus crash on a mountain road near Kuala Lumpur killed 37 people today, with 16 more in hospital with injuries, many of them critical. The crash was Malaysia's most lethal road accident since independence. <br /><br />Just before 3 p.m. the bus was leaving the Genting Highlands resort with 53 people onboard and was about four kilometres away when it went off the road at a corner. It dropped into a 30-metre deep ravine that has no road access. <br /><br />Emergency responders brought in a crane to hoist the injured out of the ravine. Many of the survivors are in critical condition at hospital. The bus driver is among the dead. <br /><br />The Genting Highlands resort is Malaysia's only legal casino.
