Originally published on August 19, 2013<br /><br />Plane crash in Kansas: A man and a woman were killed on August 18 when their single engine light aircraft crashed into a field near Kansas City's Wheeler Downtown Airport. <br /><br />The Moody single engine aircraft took took off around 3:00 p.m. with one man and one woman on board. The pilot reported reportedly radioed the airport's control tower shortly after take off to report a mechanical problem.<br /><br />Witnesses reported hearing the plane's engine sputter and seeing the plane turn back toward the runway in an apparent attempt to land.<br /><br />The aircraft appears to have then gone into a nose-dive before crashing into a grassy area between the Missouri river and the airport, said Kansas City Fire Department spokesman Tye Grant. The aircraft remained mostly structurally intact, he added.<br /><br />The names of the two occupants have not yet been released.
