The Massachusetts Port Authority has apologized for its decision to hold a fire training exercise at Boston's Logan Airport on September 11 this year, the 12th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York.<br /><br />In a statement posted on its Facebook page, Massport said it "understands that it may have offended many of those touched by the events of Sept. 11.<br /><br />On Wednesday morning, Massport alerted the public of its planned training exercise. On Twitter, it said that "smoke on the airfield is part of the training." <br /><br />Pictures posted by local news outlet WBZ-TV showed a training apparatus spewing flames and black smoke on the airfield.<br /><br />However, some travelers were unaware of the exercise and were initially frightened by the spectacle.<br /><br />Gov. Deval Patrick said later that day that Massport's decision to hold the training on <br />the anniversary of 9/11 was "just dumb."<br /><br />The governor added, "People who experienced 9/11, many who work at Massport, I just feel so sorry."<br /><br />The 9/11 terror attacks in 2001 began with the hijacking of two airplanes that had taken off from Logan Airport.<br />--------------------------------------------------------<br /><br />TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
