Originally published on August 22, 2013<br /><br />A suspected member of the 'Pink Panther' gang of jewel thieves was arrested by police in southern France. The man, a 47-year-old French citizen of Montenegrin origin was believed to be one of the five inmates who escaped from a Swiss prison three months ago. <br /><br />It was reported that during the dawn sweep on August 19, nearly 20 armed police detained Zoran Tomovic, when he tried to flee through a window in the home of an acquaintance in the Provence town of Bédarrides. Tomovic reportedly had been living in the house for several weeks before his arrest.<br /><br />According to Reuters, the Pink Panther gang has built up a reputation over several years of spectacular heists targeting high-end jewellery stores in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States.
