Millions of Portuguese millipedes suspected to cause Perth train crash in Australia

Originally published on September 5, 2013 <br /><br />A train crash in Perth was caused by millions of millipedes making the tracks too slippery for braking. The crash occurred at about 6.40am, according to local media reports.<br /><br />A train had pulled up to the station platform at a suburban train stop and passengers had begun boarding the train to travel to Perth. <br /><br />A second train was approaching the station and the driver began applying the brakes.<br /><br />However, the train did not brake in time. <br /><br />It is suspected an infestation of Portuguese millipedes on the tracks caused the tracks to become slippery and prevent the brakes from properly working.<br /><br />The freak of nature has happened before on the Perth railway network.<br /><br />The second train crashed slowly into the stationary train.
