iPhone 6 rumors: will the new models scan fingerprints? There is strong evidence to suggest Apple, based in Cupertino, California, will include fingerprint scanning features in the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6.

The latest evidence for a fingerprint scanner is contained in the iOS 7 beta 4 code released to developers. The code contains a folder labelled "Biometric Kit UI". There are lines of programming that appear to refer to a fingerprint scanning feature.

Developer Hamza Sood discovered the lines of code and tweeted screengrabs to the media.

In addition, Apple last year bought mobile security firm AuthenTec for $356 million dollars. This also suggests Apple is working on a fingerprint scanner.

How could a fingerprint scanner be used? Such a feature could reduce iPhone theft. Without your fingerprint, a stolen iPhone would be more difficult to unlock.

Biometric identification could enhance security on the device, making the iPhone more ideal for mobile payments.

But you will need to wait until next year, when Apple releases the iPhone 6. That's when industry watchers expect the feature to become available.

Apple, of course, wouldn't be the first to adopt the feature, but the iconic company could help popularize it. Motorola uses fingerprint scanners on its Atrix 4G model, which was released in 2011. A fingerprint scan is required to unlock the phone.

Laptops such as the Lenovo ThinkPad T430 also have a fingerprint scanner as a security feature.

--------------------------------------------------------

TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
