ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />A young girl was killed and at least 11 people were injured when two mortar shells hit the Shaalan district in central Damascus on Saturday (October 12).<br/> <br />The Syrian State News Agency said the mortars hit the district causing destruction and damage to the surrounding shops and houses. The source of the attack was unknown.<br/> <br />The area was particularly busy at the time of the mortar attack because of preparations for the upcoming Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha.<br/> <br />Syria's civil war has killed more than 120,000 people and forced millions from their homes since the troubles erupted in March 2011.
