Dilip Sarkar, a former Communist Party legislator, was out for a morning walk in the industrial city of Burnpur when gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on him. A female assailant shot the former politician twice at close range. When Sarkar attempted to make a call on his mobile phone, the male driver shot him twice more, before fleeing.<br /><br />Sankar was shot four times in the chest and abdomen. He died on the way to the hospital.
