ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION).<br/> <br />STORY: Thousands of Chilean students marched through Santiago on Thursday to press demands for wide ranging education reforms, one month before a presidential election.<br/> <br />The march - organized by Chile's Confederation of Students (CONFECH) and secondary school students - was largely peaceful, but clashes erupted as hooded protesters confronted police in the center of Santiago.<br/> <br />Police used tear gas and water cannon to drive back the protesters.<br/> <br />With a presidential election set for November 17, 2013, reform of the education system is expected to be a major challenge for Chile's prospective new leader.<br/> <br />The powerful student movement has been pressing for a radical overhaul of the education system for the past two years.
