This week, German authorities announced the discovery of more than 1,400 artworks plundered by the Nazis. Among the works are 20th century masterpieces by Chagall, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Matisse and Picasso. Why did the German authorities wait so long to go public with the news? And why are they now refusing to publish a full list of the works?
