In her latest eyebrow-raising stunt, Miley Cyrus lit what may have been a cannabis joint on stage at Sunday’s MTV Europe Music Awards in Amsterdam.<br /><br />When she picked up her best video award for “Wrecking Ball”, the singer made a show of not finding the space for the bauble in her handbag.<br /><br />“You know I couldn’t fit this award in my bag but I did find this,” she said, pulling out a hand-rolled cigarette which she lit as she walked off stage.<br /><br />It appeared to be a nod to Amsterdam’s famously tolerant attitude towards cannabis.<br /><br />The ex-Disney star had earlier been photographed in one of the city’s best-known coffee shops where soft drugs are on the menu.<br /><br />She was pipped to the post for the best female singer prize by Katy Perry who delivered a breathtaking performance of her own.<br /><br />Claiming her third EMA award, the US singer gave a dramatic rendition of her song “Unconditionally”, suspended like a sequin-covered glitter ball, nine metres above a<br />gigantic outer-space-themed set.<br /><br />Justin Bieber held on to his best male status for a fourth consecutive year and One Direction had a good night, taking the prize for best pop.<br /><br />US rapper Eminem was given a ‘Global Icon’ gong for lifetime achievement along with best hip-hop. It comes just a week after he was declared artist of the year at the inaugural YouTube Music Awards, run by MTV’s emerging music industry rival Google.
