A trainee naval officer has told an Italian court that the captain of the Costa Concordia “jumped” into a lifeboat as the liner was sinking.<br /><br />His evidence appears to support the prosecution’s accusation that Francesco Schettino abandoned his ship while passengers were on board.<br /><br />The defence has always argued he slipped. 32 people died in the disaster on January 13, 2012.
