Originally published on October 12, 2013 <br /><br />A logging truck slammed into a tourist train in West Virginia on Friday afternoon causing the death of the truck driver and injuring more than 60 people.<br /><br />As Reuters reported, the train was about 50 minutes into its crawl through dense spruce forests in the high country wilderness when the collision occurred at 1:30 p.m. at a crossing on along U.S. Route 250 on Cheat Mountain, about 160 miles east of Charleston.<br /><br />The train was carrying at least 60 passengers. <br /><br />According to reports, the truck involved in the accident approached the level crossing but failed to stop. <br /><br />"Signal lights at the train crossing were working properly and there were no skid marks on the roadway, said a person close to the investigation, who declined to be identified," Reuters reported. <br /><br />The truck driver died in the collision. The Pocahontas Times identified him as Danny Kimble, of Durbin, W. Va.<br /><br />Ten ambulances and one school bus were used to transport 67 people to local hospitals.<br /><br />According to NBC News, three people are in critical condition while 18 in serious condition. <br /><br />The train was carrying tourists on a day-long excursion through Appalachian spruce forests and mountain.<br /><br />--------------------------------------------------------<br /><br />TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
