Eleven people have been killed in an assault on a police station in the Xinjiang province in northwestern China.<br /><br />Chinese state media says nine attackers were shot dead in the incident on Saturday afternoon. Two police officers were also killed.<br /><br />The attackers used knives and axes in the assault near the historic city of Kashgar.<br /><br />The region is home to about 9 million Uighurs . Many complain about they have been marginalised by policies favoring Han migrants.
