ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />NASA's new Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution Mission, or MAVEN, launched into space at 1:28 p.m. EST Monday from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.<br/> <br />It's headed to Mars on a mission looking for clues about the evolution of the Red Planet by examining its atmosphere.<br/> <br />It will be a long journey. When the explorer arrives in September 2014, MAVEN will put itself into orbit around Mars and begin scrutinizing the thin layer of gases that remains in its skies.
