Russia: US captain of Greenpeace ship granted bail

The American captain of a Greenpeace ship used in an Arctic protest has been granted bail by a Russian court as hearings continue.<br /><br /> Peter Willcox, 60, was among those arrested by the Russian authorities for attempting to scale a state-owned oil rig in the Barents Sea on September 18.<br /><br /> The group of activists, known as the ‘Arctic 30’, have been charged with hooliganism and face up to seven years in prison if convicted.<br /><br /> More than half of the ‘Arctic 30’ have so far been granted bail – in hearings being held this week.<br /><br /> Britons Alex Harris and Kieron Bryan were bailed along with Dutch nationals Faiza Oulahsen and Mannes Ubels on Wednesday.<br /><br /> Greenpeace said it would make the bail payments as soon as possible.
