Engineers at Japan’s stricken Fukushima nuclear plant have removed the first of the site’s fuel rods.<br /><br />The delicate and risky work will take around two days to clear the 22 fuel rod assemblies.<br /><br />The decision was taken in order to stabilise the site that was damaged by the twin earthquake tsunami that struck Japan in 2011.
