A diplomatic crisis, simmering for months between Cairo and Ankara, finally came to a head on Saturday with the Egyptians ordering the Turkish ambassador not to return to the country.<br /><br />Egypt accuses him and Turkey of “attempting to influence public opinion against Egyptian interests, supporting meetings or organisations that seek to create instability in the country”, a coded reference to the banned Muslim Brotherhood, with whom the ruling Turkish AK party has close ties, and whose leader and deposed president, the jailed Mohammed Mursi, is a friend of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.<br /><br />Turkey says it will reciprocate with diplomatic measures against Egypt in the coming hours.
