On a day marking a tragedy in Ukraine’s past, protesters in Kiev have denounced the government’s U-turn over EU integration.<br /><br />They believe the country’s future will suffer from the decision to drop plans for a landmark deal with the EU and instead revive ties with Russia.<br /><br />Among those attending a rally in the central square was World Heavyweight Boxing Champion and opposition leader Vitali Klitschko.<br /><br />“They stole hope for the future” he told the crowd. “They promised a better life but no, there will be no changes, no reforms. It will just be the same.”<br /><br />On Saturday, President Viktor Yanukovich and others in Ukraine marked the 80th anniversary of the Holodomor, a Soviet-era famine that the country’s parliament has labelled an act of genocide by the Stalin regime. Millions died.<br /><br />As for the future, opinion polls indicate many are still undecided about which way their country should turn.
