Thai prime minister extends security act to calm protesters

As the occupation of government buildings in Thailand enters night, the prime minister is extending the country's Internal Security Act.<br/> <br />This comes after protesters forced their way into the Finance, Foreign Affairs and Public Relations ministries.<br/> <br />Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says the security act, which includes curfews and checkpoints, is to maintain peace and security for the people.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) PRIME MINISTER YINGLUCK SHINAWATRA SAYING:<br/> <br />"I have insisted that the government will not use violence against the people. We'll proceed according to the international standard."<br/> <br />The protesters accuse Yingluck of being a puppet for her brother, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.<br/> <br />Thaksin was ousted in a 2006 military coup and convicted two years later of corruption.<br/> <br />He lives in self-imposed exile and not in prison.<br/> <br />Protesters say they are treated unfairly by the government.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) SOMCHAI KAOKAM, ANTI-GOVERN
