Eight dead in Glasgow pub helicopter crash

Eight people have been confirmed dead in Friday night’s helicopter crash at a pub in Glasgow city centre<br /><br />Three victims were on board the police helicopter that fell from the sky as revellers watched a band play at ‘The Clutha’ pub on the banks of the River Clyde.<br /><br />A further 14 people remain in hospital with serious injuries as a search and rescue operation continues.<br /><br />The tragedy happened on the eve of Saint Andrew’s Day – honouring Scotland’s patron saint.<br /><br />“This is a black day for Glasgow and for Scotland,” said Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond. “It is also Saint Andrew’s Day and it’s a day we can take pride and courage in how we respond to adversity and tragedy. And that response from our emergency services and from ordinary citizens has been exemplary.”<br /><br />Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has sent a message of support, saying her thoughts and prayers are with the victims.
