Night falls in Bangkok with no end to the anti-government protests despite a meeting between the opposition leader and the prime minister.<br /><br />Suthep Thaugsuban said no agreement had been reached with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinwatra to end the protests and occupations of public buildings.<br /><br />The day had started with attempts to unseat the government in what the demonstrators had declared “V day” of what they called a “people’s coup”.<br /><br />Protesters entered TV stations with Thaugsuban appearing on one calling for a general strike on Monday. But plans to occupy other government buildings were thwarted and violence flared. <br /><br />One senior government official said they hadn’t seized a single place. Hospitals confirmed 46 people were injured in Sunday’s violent clashes.<br /><br />Tear gas and water cannon forced back those who had tried to enter Government House while the police headquarters were also defended. <br /><br />The government urged people in Bangkok to stay indoors from 10 pm to 5 am.<br /><br />The opposition are calling for a national strike on Monday as part of their campaign to oust Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra who they claim is a puppet for her brother Thaksin, Thailand’s exiled former leader who was ousted in a military coup seven years ago.
