At least 30 people have been killed and scores wounded in an attack at Yemen’s Ministry of Defence.<br /><br />A suicide bomber detonated a car laden with explosives at a gate to the compound, in the centre of the capital Sanaa.<br /><br />Armed assailants then stormed the complex, targeting a hospital inside. Foreign medical staff are reported to be among the casualties.<br /><br />Security forces regained control of the site following a gun battle. <br /><br />The Ministry of Defence said in a statement that most of the attackers had been killed or detained.<br /><br />No group has claimed responsibility for storming the defence ministry.<br /><br />Yemen’s President Mansur Hadi visited the site in the wake of the attack.<br /><br />US-allied Yemen has been grappling with a security threat from al-Qaeda-linked militants who have repeatedly attacked government officials and sites over the last two years.
