'Massive Monday' demonstrations continue despite Thailand's PM promising elections

Thailand’s prime minister is to dissolve parliament and call elections as soon as possible.<br /><br />The announcement came as thousands of Thais once again took to the streets in Bangkok.<br /><br />Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban has responded saying the demonstrations will continue.<br /><br />Premier Yingluck Shinawatra had proposed to hold a referendum on her future, promising to resign if the people wanted. However that appears to have been rejected with the opposition resigning their parliamentary seats.<br /><br />Protesters have been calling for Yingluck to quit for weeks. But they don’t just want her to go, they also want to eradicate the influence of her self-exiled brother, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.<br /><br />The family has held sway in Thailand for decades.<br /><br />Protests leaders are aware that Yingluck would likely win an election and want to replace her with a people’s council.
