The President of the European Commission says he has asked Ukraine’s president to restrain from using force against peaceful protesters. <br /><br />Jose Manual Barroso’s comments came a day ahead of a visit by the EU’s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton to Ukraine<br /><br />“I have asked him (Yanukovych) to receive the High Representative / Vice-President of the Commission Cathy Ashton who will be in Kiev tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, so she can also have a role in trying to bring some solutions to the very tense situation that Ukraine is living today”, he said.<br /><br />Ashton will hold talks with government officials, opposition activists and civil society groups during her two day visit.
