Kerry asks Congress not to impose new sanctions on Iran

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br /> <br />U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry testified before Congress Tuesday, defending a November 24, 2013 deal under which Tehran would restrict its nuclear program in exchange for limited relief from U.S. economic sanctions.<br /> <br />He also asked skeptical U.S. lawmakers not to impose new sanctions on Iran while the United States works to negotiate a comprehensive agreement with Iran to curb its nuclear program. He says fresh sanctions would be seen as an act of bad faith because the United States agreed under a November 24 deal not to impose them. He also said new sanctions could undermine the unity of the six major powers who negotiated that deal - Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States.<br /> <br />Republicans and Democrats in the House Foreign Affairs Committee had questions about the deal.
