Some 55 inmates escaped from a Quito prison facility on Sunday (December 16), sparking a shootout and a chase by police who captured at least 20 of the prisoners on the street.<br/> <br />Using helicopters and rooftops as a perch, Ecuadorean authorities managed to roundup at least 20 of the would-be escapees.<br/> <br />According to officials, the escape was aided by a number of the guards. He also said that nine guards had failed to show up for their shifts that day.<br/> <br />The prison facility is built to house 300 inmates, however, according to reports, there were over 1,200.
