So in its spare time, Noxus invaded the island nation of Ionia, gaining foothold in its southern provinces. With Noxus knocking at their door, the Ionians looked towards the League of Legends for help and it was ultimately decided to settle the matter on the Fields of Justice.<br /><br />Noxus eventually prevailed and was granted control of Ionian provinces - that is until a monk's fiery protest prompted a rematch*. The two city-states locked blades once more, but this time Ionia steamrolled their way to victory and gave Noxus the boot... only to turn its attention towards Kalamanda - a hotbed of gold and gems waiting to be claimed.<br /><br />The discovery had also attracted Noxus' eternal enemy, Demacia. Tensions mounted the two scrambled to extract Kalamanda's precious resources until the mines collapsed, trapping Demacian miners in the rubble. They were recovered, but so were Noxian explosives that caused the cave-in. This pushed Kalamanda to award Demacia an exclusive mining contract, though not before Jericho Swain marched in with a Demacian prisoner who conveniently confessed to framing Noxus for the collapse. Chaos erupted, armies were raised, and Noxus ruler Boram Darkwill was assassinated, setting the stage for war... until the League put the entire city in a temporal stasis bubble, because hey, when you can prevent a war and introduce a brand new game mode where you can fight robots and children and that slime from Flubber the death, why not?
