Egyptian police have stormed the office of a human rights organisation in Cairo, to arrest a democracy campaigner. <br /><br />Thursday’s early morning raid, at the Egyptian <br />Centre for Economic and Social Rights (ECESR), has been condemned by activist groups. They claim it is part of a push to crush dissent. <br /><br />Police targeted the office to arrest Mohamed <br />Adel, according to a security official. <br /><br />Adel is wanted in connection with protests <br />against a law that heavily restricts the right to <br />demonstrate.<br /><br />A video released by the organisation showed <br />the aftermath of the police raid, during which <br />computers and other equipment were <br />confiscated, according to ECESR staff.<br /><br />In a statement, 10 Egyptian civil society groupssaid five other activists were also detained but later released, describing the midnight raid as an “unprecedented escalation.”
