Greece: Shots fired at German ambassador's residence

An anti-terrorist investigation is underway in Athens after gunshots were fired at the German ambassador’s residence early on Monday.<br /><br />The outside metal gate was hit. No one was hurt.<br /><br />Attacks on diplomatic targets, banks or foreign firms are not uncommon in Greece with far-left or anarchist groups usually blamed.<br /><br />No one has claimed responsibility for this attack. Reports suggest several people are being questioned by police.<br /><br />Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras spoke to the German ambassador to Athens, after the incident.<br /><br />Anti-German rhetoric has increased in Greece, with Berlin widely held responsible for austerity measures imposed under an international bailout.<br /><br />The residence was the target of an attack in 1999, when members of the now dismantled extremist group November 17 fired a rocket that hit its roof.
