2014 is expected to be a landmark year for the people of Afghanistan.<br /><br />Foreign forces are due to withdraw and a presidential election is set to take place.<br /><br />But the Taliban remain a threat and so do economic uncertainty and high unemployment.<br /><br />Afghans living in Taliban controlled areas say they have to join either side of the fighting to be guaranteed a reliable pay cheque.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Jane Ferguson reports from Kabul.
