North Korea opened a large new ski resort on New Year’s Eve, following controversy over Switzerland’s refusal to allow the export of ski lifts to the socialist state.<br />The ski resort project has been highlighted by North Korea for months as a major construction effort closely linked to its leader Kim Jong Un.<br />North Korea’s Ski Association estimates that there are about 5,500 skiers out of a population of approximately 24 million, meaning just 0.02 percent of North Koreans are established skiers.<br />The resort has one hotel for foreigners, which can accommodate up to 200 guests.<br />No Comment | euronews: watch the international news without commentary | http://www.euronews.net/nocomment/
