In Cambodia, military police have opened fire on protesters calling for higher wages for clothing factory workers. <br /><br />Five people are now reported to have been killed in Friday’s clashes in the capital Phnom Penh. <br /><br />The violence erupted as workers across Cambodia went on national strike demanding an increase in the country’s minimum wage. <br /><br />Several demonstrators were badly injured in the crackdown which appeared to show the use of live rounds by the authorities. <br /><br />Security forces say officers stepped in to break up the protest after coming under attack from rocks, Molotov cocktails and other projectiles. <br /><br />The latest industrial unrest comes off the back of weeks of demonstrations calling on Cambodia’s prime minister to step down.
