Anti-government protesters began gathering early in Bangkok in one of many protests planned in the coming days to unseat Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and delay a February election.

Supporters of the Democrat Party accuse Yingluck of being the puppet of her self-exiled brother and former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

They have vowed to hold rallies every other day until January 13th when they hope to shutdown the government.

After weeks of sometimes violent protests, Yingluck called for a snap election to be held on February 2nd.

But opposition supporters say that won't do. They want an appointed "people's council" to oversee reforms before any election is held- a request Yingluck has refused to grant.

The government has vowed to put some 20,000 police and 20 companies of troops on the streets to maintain order.
