Janet Yellen has been officially approved by the US Senate to take the reins at the Federal<br />Reserve. <br /><br />She becomes the first women to lead the central bank in its 100 year history.<br /><br />The vote 56 to 26 is the last procedural hurdle for the 67-year-old before taking over from Ben Bernake after his term as Federal chairman expires on January 31.<br /><br />Yellen is the first Fed chair nominated by a Democratic president since Paul Volcker left the top spot in 1987.
