The US state of New York is allow the medical use of cannabis.<br /><br />Although possession of the drug in the state is currently illegal, around 20 hospitals are to be allowed to dispense the drug to patients with severe illnesses such as cancer. <br /><br />New York will be the 21st state to change the drug’s status. Washington state is expected to follow suit later this year. <br /><br />Recently there has been a growing relaxation of US laws governing the use of marijuana – on January 1 Colorado began selling it for recreational purposes.
