Fighting broke out in the Turkish parliament on Saturday during a debate about a draft bill to give the ruling AK party more control over the judiciary.<br /><br />The clash started after a judicial union rep presented a petition arguing the bill was unconstitutional, but the case was not put up for discussion.<br /><br />Meanwhile tens of thousands of protesters called for Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan to step down.<br /><br />Turkey is wrestling with a major corruption scandal after a secret police probe prompted party resignations and drove the lira currency to new lows.<br /><br />Erdogan’s reaction, to tighten control over the police and courts, risks doing the deepest long-term damage to the country.
