'American Hustle' wins Globes gold

Taking the coveted Golden Globe for Best Drama, “12 Years a Slave” is now firmly on path for the Oscars in March. <br /><br />However, the Golden Globe frontrunner by British director Steve McQueen only picked up one award out of seven nominations. <br /><br />The big winner was David O. Russell’s 1970’s black crime comedy ‘‘American Hustle”, which took home three of its seven nominations including Best Comedy or Musical, Best Actress in a Comedy for Amy Adams and Best Supporting actress for Jennifer Lawrence.<br /><br />In the drama category, Matthew McConaughey won the Golden Globe for Best Actor for his portrayal of unlikely AIDS activist Ron Woodroof in “Dallas Byers Club”. His co-star Jared Leto won Best Supporting Actor.<br /><br />The top drama acting award for a female actress went to Cate Blanchett for her role as a riches-to-rags socialite in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine”. <br /><br />Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy as fast-living, drug-popping, swindling stockbroker Jordan Belfort in the “The Wolf of Wall Street,” his fifth collaboration with director Martin Scorsese.<br /><br />Best Director went to Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron for his existential space thriller “Gravity”, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.
