A Chinese doctor has been handed a suspended death sentence for stealing babies from the hospital where she worked.<br /><br />The obstetrician then sold them on to child traffickers.<br /><br />The court found Zhang Shuxia guilty of abducting and selling seven babies in Shaanxi province. <br /><br />The doctor told parents their children had serious diseases and persuaded them to give up the new-born infants.<br /><br />Six of the babies were returned to their families, while one, a baby girl died.<br /><br />Police in China are investigating a further 26 cases related to Zhang. It is claimed she received 2,600 euros for a baby boy who was then sold on for higher price. <br /><br />A suspended death sentence in China is usually commuted to life imprisonment.
