Twenty-one workers trapped in a coal mine in eastern China are lifted to safety.<br/> <br />The ceiling of a mine in Huainan city collapsed at around 10 a.m. (0200 GMT) on Tuesday when miners were working 900 metres underground.<br/> <br />One miner was killed, while the rest were pulled to the surface, in a rescue effort that took about nine hours.<br/> <br />The survivors were all in good condition.<br/> <br />Although the death toll from accidents has fallen, China's coal mines are the deadliest in the world because of poor safety.<br/> <br />The government plans to shut down about 2,000 small coal mines by next year.
