ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />STORY: Hundreds of demonstrators opposed to the current military-backed regime took to the streets in downtown Cairo on Wednesday and burned American flags as part of their protest.<br/> <br />The demonstration came days before the anniversary of the uprising which put an end to former President Hosni Mubarak's 30-year rule.<br/> <br />Protesters lit flares and chanted slogans opposing former President Mohamed Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood as well as current army chief Abdel Fatah al-Sisi who removed Mursi on July 3 after mass protests against his rule.<br/> <br />The interim government is pushing ahead with a political transition plan that should lead to presidential and parliamentary elections this year, with Sisi seen as a likely candidate.<br/> <br />Egyptians passed a new constitution in a referendum last week with a 98.1 percent "yes" vote, according to official results. The vote was boycotted by the Brotherhood.
