The electronic cigarette has revolutionised smoking habits in Europe and around the world, with more and more tobacco users turning to it for what they believe is a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes. <br /><br />But how safe are these simple devices and how effective are they at helping smokers kick the habit?<br /><br />So far there has been too little research done to arrive at any firm conclusions. In the meantime the European Parliament is gearing up to legislate on the e-cigarette amid concerns that it could be a health risk. <br /><br />Its supporters claim there is no justification for a ban or restrictions that would deprive smokers of access to a vital aid in their battle to quit. <br /><br />As we see in this edition of Reporter, with Valerie Zabriskie, there are no easy answers to these complex questions.
