Clashes broke out in Manila Monday during a shanty town demolition.<br/> <br />Residents and protesters hurled rocks and molotov cocktails at police and swat teams who fired back with tear gas.<br/> <br />The trouble started earlier when officials began tearing down homes and shelters in The San Roque village slum.<br/> <br />About 7,000 families live here, some have called it home for decades.<br/> <br />The local government wants the land to widen the roads and say there is a relocation plan for residents.<br/> <br />But most people are reluctant to leave and fear they won't find work outside of the city.<br/> <br />This woman had been living in her house for 26 years.<br/> <br />They're using too much force, she yelled. They are harassing the masses.<br/> <br />Several of Manila's shanty communities have been demolished in the past year for infrastructure projects. This particular slum is about 33 hectares will be leased to a private company.
