A homecoming for Edgar Tamayo.<br/> <br />Hundreds line the streets of Miacatlan holding candles, a small Mexican town in the state of Morelos as they welcome back his body. He was executed by lethal injection in Texas on January 22.<br/> <br />His coffin is taken into his family's home for a wake ahead of his burial.<br/> <br />In 1994, Tamayo was convicted for shooting a Houston police officer to death. That put him at the center of a diplomatic spat between the United States and Mexico.<br/> <br />Tamayo was denied an 11-hour stay of execution by the U.S. Supreme Court.<br/> <br />Mexico had called on Texas to halt the execution, saying it was a violation of international law. The Mexican government maintains that Tamayo was not informed of his right to diplomatic assistance in the case.<br/> <br />For now, the mariachis play on at they prepare to lay his body to rest.
