Iran marks the 35th anniversary of its Islamic revolution.<br/> <br />February 10TH is the day Ayatollah Khomeini took power of the country.<br/> <br />In 1979, a siege began some ten months after the fall of the U.S.-allied shah. Radical students stormed the U.S. embassy, taking 52 people hostage. They were released after 444 days. It ended U.S.-Iranian diplomatic relations.<br/> <br />More recently, Iran reached an interim agreement with Western powers to curb its nuclear program.<br/> <br />In his State of the Union Address, U.S. President Barack Obama defended his outreach to Iran saying: "If John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan could negotiate with the Soviet Union, then surely a strong and confident America can negotiate with less powerful adversaries today."
