Toyota is recalling 1.9 million of its Prius cars worldwide.<br /><br />That is being done to fix a programming problem in the hybrid systems, which could cause vehicles to lose power or even stop altogether. <br /><br />Most of the recalls are in Japan and North America.<br /><br />It is the third recall for the current Prius, which has been on sale for five years. <br /><br />Last June there were brake system problems. <br /><br />The Prius is one of Toyota’s best-selling models and has become synonymous with the fuel-saving hybrid technology.<br /><br />A Toyota spokeswoman said no accidents have been reported related to the latest defect.<br /><br />Toyota, the world’s top-selling car maker, has not disclosed cost estimates for the recalls.
