Ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi has appeared in court inside a soundproof glass cage.

The former leader is facing four separate trials, three of which have now opened.

In this trial, Mursi and 35 others are accused of working with Lebanese and Palestinian groups to carry out attacks in Egypt.

In what they call “the biggest case of conspiracy in the history of Egypt”, prosecutors say Mursi’s Muslim Brotherhood hatched a “terrorist plan” in 2005 involving the Palestinian Hamas group as well as Shi’ite Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah.

Mursi’s legal team said they could not hear their client speak. They complained about the defendants being confined inside the glass cage and are reported to have walked out in protest.

The trial has been adjourned until Sunday February 23.
