Nine people have died during the latest clashes in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv: seven civilians and two police officers, according to a police spokeswoman. One of those police officers was shot in the neck. <br /><br /> Ukrainian protesters hurled petrol bombs, fireworks and stones at riot police on Tuesday in the worst day of violence since demonstrations erupted against President Viktor Yanukovych 12 weeks ago.<br /><br /> Western powers warned Yanukovych against trying to smash the anti-government demonstrations and opposition leader Vitaly Klitschko, fearing an assault, urged women and children to leave Kyiv’s central Independence Square “to avoid further victims”.<br /><br /> Ukraine will restrict incoming traffic to Kyvv from midnight on Tuesday to prevent the escalation of clashes of anti-government protesters with police.
